□ The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science & Technology (DGIST; President Kunwoo Lee) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (Chairperson Chulhwan Yu) at the Main Administrative Building, DGIST on July 17, and announced their collaboration on education to spread a culture of integrity. The MOU was prepared to lay an educational foundation for internalizing awareness about integrity among future generations of undergraduate and graduate students, strengthening integrity among faculty and staff members, and reinforcing a framework for the protection of the rights and interests within the university.
□ The two organizations plan to expand cooperation across a variety of fields to spread a culture of integrity, including (i) education to establish integrity values among undergraduate and graduate students, (ii) education to improve integrity among faculty and staff members, (iii) promoting the operations of collaborative integrity education in the university, (iv) regular courses for integrity education, and (v) counseling for and resolution of grievances among undergraduate and graduate students and faculty and staff members.
□ DGIST President Kunwoo Lee said, “Since science and technology is a field that significantly impacts society as a whole, we will work with the National Human Rights Commission of Korea to promote systematic integrity education. We will contribute to sustainable development and social trust by developing talented individuals in science and technology by endowing them not only with exceptional skills, but also the right values and awareness about integrity.”
□ Chairperson Chulhwan Yu of the National Human Rights Commission said, “With this MOU, I hope that DGIST students will grow into leaders with integrity and lead Korea’s science and technology in the right direction.”
□ DGIST creates future values for the region and the country based on interdisciplinary research and innovation education, and selects physical AI, human digital twins, and quantum sensing as its three strategic areas to focus on promoting technology commercialization and creating an industrial ecosystem. Furthermore, DGIST is also recognized for its global research competitiveness and is ranked fourth in the world and first in Korea in the QS World University Rankings for citations per faculty. DGIST plans to strengthen cooperation with leading organizations in Korea and abroad to make a difference as an innovative institution contributing to the development of national science and technology.
