Dr. Tariq Zaman

Dr. Tariq is an Associate Professor in the School of Computing and Creative Media, University of Technology Sarawak, Sibu Malaysia. He has 20 years of experience working as a lecturer, researcher, consultant and development practitioner with indigenous and underserved communities of Malaysia, Namibia and Pakistan. His research interests include Indigenous Knowledge Management (Governance), Community-based Co-design (HCI), Rural ICT, Community Informatics and ICT4D.

Dr. Tariq projects and research publications equally reflect the multiple voices of indigenous wisdom and cultural understanding by converging local, scientific, traditional and cultural knowledge. Dr. Tariq is on the panel of top-tier conferences such as the 2020 IFIP WG 9.4 European Conference, NordiCHI 2020, IFIP WG 9.4 2017 and 26th European Conference on Information Systems. Tariq has been Keynote speaker for the International Conference on Culture & Computer Science (ICCCS-2017) Berlin and the 2nd AfriCHI (2018). Dr. Tariq also contributes his services for high-level policy formation and currently, he is appointed as a member of the Expert Group for developing the Science and Technology Policy for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. He has been appointed as Associate Fellow of the Malaysian Commonwealth Studies Centre, Trinity College, Cambridge and a member of the International Expert Panel for evaluation of the Digital Futures Diversity and Inclusion Fund 2021, established by the Swedish Government-KTH and Stockholm University Sweden.
