Waseda University

Waseda University was founded in 1882 (Meiji 15) by Shigenobu Okuma, Ex-Prime Minister, with the aim of developing human resources in modern Japan. It was originally named Tokyo College for Technical Studies (Tokyo Senmon Gakko) and in 1902 (Meiji 35), the name was changed to Waseda University.

The University now consists of 16 undergraduate schools, 23 graduate schools and other affiliated institutions and the number of students has grown to 50,000. While its tradition, pride, educational philosophy and methodology developed with flexible and innovative ideas have always been leading Japan's education, Waseda University has produced a lot of internationally-known researchers, literati, entrepreneurs, and politicians including six Japanese prime ministers.

In addition to its excellent alumni, Waseda University has published important research results; findings in cutting-edge robotics and nanotechnology, production of a computer-generated image of Egyptian mummy face, and development of film/video production systems in collaboration with private enterprises.
