French programme ICT-Asia

Taipei, Taiwan - A programme of the French Cooperation to foster cooperation and networking in research and training in ICT in Asia

Taking into account the dynamism of the ICT sector in Asia, a regional programme for education and fundamental and applied research in ICT has been set up through the scientific network of the French cooperation in this region, along with research bodies and higher education institutions. The ICT-Asia programme was launched in November 2003 in Bangkok at the first regional seminar held at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), which was attended by more than 70 representatives from France and a dozen countries in the region.

In partnership with France, the programme involves the ten member countries of ASEAN (Burma, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) as well as specific Northeast Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan) and South Asian countries (India, Pakistan).

The objective of the programme is to reinforce on a mutual benefit basis high level collaborations with emerging and developed Asian countries and to contribute to the integration of less advanced countries in the area into the information society.
