5th Asian Conference on Food and Nutrition Safety - “Science-based Solutions - Sustainable Actions”

This timely meeting will focus on the latest global issues and those pertinent to Asia, addressing emerging and re-emerging food and water safety concerns impacting the farm-to-table continuum.

Background

Globally, many governments, especially those in the developing countries, are faced with increasing challenges in ensuring affordable safe food and water supply for their populations. The recent unprecedented rise in world food prices due to the culminating effects of imbalances in global commodities and food demand, climate change and policies of some authorities, may lead to longer term consequences on the food supply chain and impact on safety concerns with public health implication.

The ILSI Asian Conference on Food and Nutrition Safety (ACFNS), held once every four years since 1991, is recognized as a regional scientific forum to review, discuss and address the science that ensures safety of food and water supply. The 5th in the series, with the theme “Science-based Solutions - Sustainable Actions”, will be held this November in Cebu, Philippines. This timely meeting will focus on the latest global issues and those pertinent to Asia, addressing emerging and re-emerging food and water safety concerns impacting the farm-to-table continuum.

The conference program aims to update participants on scientific advances and regulatory development that will further the understanding of science-based decision processes and harmonized approaches based on internationally recognized standards and methodologies. Renowned scientists from international agencies, governments, health and research institutions, as well as the industry will share their perspectives, discuss best practices and harnessing of new technologies for sustainable actions to secure safer and better food supply.

The 2½-days conference will comprise 7 Plenary Sessions, Poster Sessions and Oral Presentations during the concurrent Symposia, ending with a ½ day technical field trip. A pre-conference Satellite Symposium and two concurrent post-plenary workshops will complement the main conference, making this one of the most comprehensive meetings on food safety in the region.

Audiences include senior government health, regulatory and policy officials; food safety program managers, regulatory affairs and R&D personnel; food technologists and food scientists; biotechnology and agriculture scientists; food service, retail and hospitality management and marketing personnel; nutritionists; and health educators.
