TWAS To Hold 25th Anniversary Celebration, 10-13 November 2008

TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world, will hold its 25th anniversary celebration in Mexico City on 10-13 November 2008. Felipe Calderón, the president of Mexico, will give the opening address. Nobel Prize winners Mario Molina (chemistry 1995) and Harold Varmus (physiology and medicine 1995) will be among the prominent scientists presenting Silver Jubilee lectures. A series of symposium, focusing on such topics as chemistry, mathematics, human health and megacities will provide broad perspectives on critical issues related to science and society. There will also be the induction of new Academy members and the awarding of TWAS prizes and medals. A special half-day session on the state of science and technology in Mexico will feature talks by Mexico's most prominent scientists and science administrators. More than 400 scientists from around the world are expected to attend the four-day event.
