IUTAM Symposium on Emerging Trends in Rotor Dynamics

Rotor dynamics is an important branch of discipline of dynamics that deals with behavior of large variety of rotating machines. The symposium will bring together leading researchers from all over the world to share their research experiences.

IUTAM Symposium on Emerging Trends in Rotor Dynamics is being organized at IIT Delhi under the auspices of International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) and Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

Rotor dynamics is an important branch of discipline of dynamics that deals with behavior of large variety of rotating machines. Complex system of rotating shaft(s) supported on bearings handle large amount of energy and fluid mass, which gives rise to variety of interesting physical phenomena. Research in rotor dynamics started almost one hundred years back. Early research focused on simple issues like prediction of critical speeds. However with the advent of fast computational facilities, and accurate and versatile measurement techniques, research in this area has accelerated over the past few decades. In the process researchers have observed several new phenomena which are not fully understood even today. The demand from industry for light weight, high performance and reliable rotor-bearing systems is the driving force for research and new developments in the field of rotor dynamics.

The symposium aims at bringing together, leading researchers from all over the world to share their research experiences, and more importantly to set up the directions for future research in rotor dynamics.
