The Vargas Museum invites students to enroll to the summer workshop for Junior Museum Guides. Now on its eight year, this workshop welcomes participants ages 9 to 14 years old. The sessions will be held from Wednesday to Saturday, 9-12 and 16-19 May, from 1 to 5pm.

The Vargas joins museums around the world in celebrating the International Museum Day. With the theme Museums in a Changing World: New challenges, new inspirations, this year’s program for Junior Museum Guides proposes new ways of thinking, approaching concepts, and working with audiences in a modern and contemporary art museum.

Students will be acquainted with aspects of museum work like guiding museum visitors, cataloging and handling artworks. They will also engage in creative activities like printmaking (headed by the Philippine Association of Printmakers) and creating soft sculpture (by Alma Quinto). Additionally, they will be engaged in the museum’s contemporary art program. Participants will be exposed to the processes involved in a community-based art installation project headed by multi-disciplinary artist and educator J Pacena.

The JMG workshop will be culminated with a graduation and the launch of the museum guides’ exhibition project.

Registration fee is PhP 3,500. Due to limited slots, advanced registration is encouraged.

For inquiries and registration, please call the Vargas Museum at 928-19-27; 981-85-00 loc. 4024, or e-mail [email protected].
