International Conference on Real-Time Tumor Tracking Radiation Therapy with 4D Molecular Image Technique

The Third International Conference on Real-Time Tumor Tracking Radiation Therapy with 4D Molecular Image Technique in Sapporo, Japan 7-8th February 2013

This conference aims at transmitting the latest research information to our colleague researchers as well as accelerating the information sharing among researchers, though the lectures by worldly-renowned researchers. The first and second “FIRST” meetings held in Kyoto in 2011 and 2012 were so successful, with participants more than we had anticipated. We believe participants shared the latest information on the world-wide researches on technologies required for the next generation radiation treatment for cancer. The contexts of our discussions are applied to our tasks to promote our FIRST program.

We are pleased that the Third International Conference is held in Sapporo this time. This year, we try to include topics on epoch-making researches from other fields, such as molecular biology and diagnostic imaging, to re-realize the importance of cross-border approaches to improve cure rate of cancer.

Through symposium and panel discussions, we will reveal the expectations and challenges to the future development of radiation treatment of cancer. In addition, we will organize the laboratory tour for the “Real-time Tumor-tracking Proton Beam Therapy System,” which is under construction in the Hokkaido University, as well as the poster sessions. We hope this encourages more active and deeper discussions and information exchanges among participants.

We believe that the cutting-edge radiation therapy cannot be developed without the inter-field and intra-field collaboration of medicine, science and engineering, etc. We hope this conference will serve the development of the cutting-edge radiation therapy for the cancer treatment with the view of providing better quality of life of patients.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you all in Sapporo, Japan.

Sincerely yours,

Hiroki Shirato, M.D., Ph.D.
