18th International Symposium on Environmental Biogeochemistry
Auckland, NZ - There will be four full days of oral and poster research presentations, covering the spectrum from geochemistry to microbiology, and all fields in between.
We are pleased to announce that ISEB 18 “Environmental Biogeochemistry at the
Extremes” will be held in Taupo, New Zealand in November 2007. ISEB conferences seek to
promote scientific knowledge of biogeochemical processes operating in the environment, and to
provide an opportunity for interaction between geochemists, microbiologists, chemists,
biologists, environmental scientists and others undertaking research in this interdisciplinary field.
We anticipate that this conference will continue the tradition established by the recent biennial
ISEB conferences held in the USA, Japan, Poland and Canada, and will be a stimulating,
invaluable and enjoyable biogeochemistry forum.
An “extreme” theme has been chosen for ISEB 18. There will be a focus on biogeochemical
processes occurring under extreme environmental conditions, but not to the exclusion of
processes in the more “normal” environments which help define these extremes. The
conference will be held in the central North Island region of New Zealand; a region of
spectacular geothermal activity, mountains and lakes. Locally known as a “Land of Fire and
Ice”, the geothermal systems here are the subject of ongoing national and international
biogeochemical research.
Conference Sessions
There will be four full days of oral and poster research presentations, covering the spectrum
from geochemistry to microbiology, and all fields in between. As the “extreme” theme of the
conference is not designed to exclude research in more ambient environments, each session will
focus on a particular environment, inclusive of ambient, extreme and human-altered conditions
therein. Provisional session titles are listed below, and these will be finalised after abstracts have
been received.
