□ DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) is fostering future science and technology talent through close collaboration with the local community. DGIST announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the Future Young Science and Technology Talent Development Support Project with Hyeonpung Nonghyup (President Chang-sup Jeong), located in Hyeonpung-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu, on Wednesday, July 15, to promote the shared growth of the local community and nurture future science and technology talent.
□ The agreement was established to build a mutually beneficial model through which the local community and the university grow together through a partnership with Hyeonpung Nonghyup, the leading financial institution in Hyeonpung-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu, where DGIST is located. Under the agreement, the two organizations agreed to actively pursue: 1) establishing a sustainable framework for mutually beneficial cooperation to foster future science and technology talent; 2) jointly operating educational, cultural, and arts programs; and 3) improving the research and educational environment for students, while providing comprehensive support for DGIST students.
□ The partnership is particularly significant because it goes beyond conventional corporate sponsorship, with Hyeonpung Nonghyup—an institution that has long worked closely with the local community—expanding the scope of its social contribution activities to the local university campus. It is considered to have established a virtuous cycle wherein a local financial institution directly supports local talent through partnership, and the talented individuals who are nurtured in turn contribute to the development of the local community.
□ “Thanks to Hyeonpung Nonghyup’s warm interest and full support, our students can now devote themselves to their studies and research in an even more comfortable environment,” said DGIST President Kunwoo Lee. “We will continue working to establish an exemplary model of mutual growth in which the local community and the university grow together.”
□ “Having grown alongside local farmers and residents, Nonghyup now hopes to become a steadfast source of support for university students, who represent the future of our community,” said Hyeonpung Nonghyup President Chang-sup Jeong. “We hope that this partnership will serve as a stepping stone for students to grow in a healthy manner and become key talent who will one day bring distinction to both the local community and the nation.”
□ Meanwhile, building on this agreement, DGIST plans to further strengthen its ties with the local community and significantly enhance student welfare and educational infrastructure. The institute will create an optimal ecosystem for students to focus on their research in a stable environment both on and off campus, while dedicating all of its capabilities to nurturing world-class talent in convergence science and technology.
