□ DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) and Korea University (President Dong-one Kim) jointly held the “Korea University-DGIST Joint Symposium” at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, at Hankook Ilbo Hall, the Grand Auditorium of Korea University.
□ The joint symposium was organized based on the cooperation and credit exchange agreement signed between the two universities in June, with the aim of strengthening the foundation for joint research and establishing a sustainable system for collaboration in future convergence research fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum science, biotechnology, and energy.
□ Around 30 participants, representing both universities, attended the event, including the presidents and vice presidents, key faculty members, and researchers. The program featured presentations of joint research proposals, a panel discussion, and a networking dinner.
□ DGIST President Kunwoo Lee stated, “Today marks a meaningful occasion where the two universities take their first step toward actual joint research collaboration based on the previous agreement. I hope that through active convergence research, both institutions will grow together and create an innovative research ecosystem.”
□ Korea University President Dong-one Kim stated, “This symposium marks the starting point for full-fledged academic convergence and practical joint research between the two institutions. By connecting the talent, technology, and research infrastructure of both universities, it will serve as a driving force in shaping the future of science and technology in Korea.”
□ At the symposium, five researchers from DGIST and six from Korea University presented joint research proposals in a wide range of fields, including AI, quantum computing, robotics, digital twins, and precision medicine. The subsequent panel discussion, held under the theme “Strategies for Establishing Flagship Programs to Promote Joint Research,” explored directions for collaboration between the two universities and ways to identify strategic research initiatives.
□ Building on this symposium, the two universities plan to expand their collaboration to include regular joint symposiums, joint research projects in various fields, and the fostering of next-generation researchers. Moving forward, they intend to continue advancing research cooperation and convergence innovation to jointly drive the development of future science and technology.
