- The Times Higher Education (THE) in the UK has published its first Interdisciplinary Science Research Rankings... by evaluating 749 universities from 92 countries - DGIST ranks second in Korea after Yonsei University and receives global recognition for its convergence research capabilities

□ DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) has been ranked second in South Korea after Yonsei University and 110th in the world in the THE Interdisciplinary Science Research Rankings 2025.

□ The THE Interdisciplinary Science Research Rankings is an assessment of interdisciplinary research involving two or more scientific fields by Times Higher Education (THE), a university assessment organization in the UK. The rankings, published for the first time this year, are based on 749 universities in 92 countries.

□ For the rankings, THE assesses interdisciplinary scientific research based on three areas (△inputs, △process, and △outputs) using 11 indicators. In the Inputs area, research funding rates and human resources are assessed; in the Process area, the systems for interdisciplinary research are assessed; and in the Outputs area, research output and reputation are assessed. They account for 19%, 16%, and 65% of the score, respectively.

□ “We are pleased to be recognized for our world-class research environment and achievements in this year's THE Interdisciplinary Scientific Research Ranking,” said DGIST President Lee Kunwoo. “We will continue to support a variety of convergence research within DGIST and actively promote joint projects with world-class institutions to achieve even more outstanding results.”

□ Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, DGIST has grown rapidly through innovative education and research that breaks down boundaries between disciplines. Recently, it was ranked 33rd in the world and 1st among newly listed universities in the THE Young University Rankings, and 7th in the world in terms of citations per faculty member, an indicator of research strength, in the QS World University Rankings. DGIST is also laying the groundwork to become a world-class university, having recently won its bid to host the “World Engineering Education Forum and Global Engineering Deans Council 2025 (WEEF-GEDC 2025),” the world’s largest engineering education conference. Moreover, DGIST is in the process of establishing “The DGIST Global Campus” and “Graduate School of Engineering,” and is contributing to the development of local industries and nurturing global talents by working closely with local communities in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province to foster global talents and develop local industries.
