DGIST President Kunwoo Lee Joins Relay Campaign to Raise Awareness of Population Issues

□ On May 19, DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) joined the Relay Campaign to Raise Awareness of Population Issues to support efforts aimed at increasing public attention to the challenges of low birth rates and population aging.

□ The campaign, which began in October last year, is a relay-style initiative co-hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Health and Welfare. It aims to enhance public understanding of the rapidly changing demographic landscape and build a broad social consensus on responses to low birth rates and aging.

□ Nominated by Choi Jae-hun, Mayor of Dalseong-gun, President Lee participated in the campaign and named Kang Eun-hee, Superintendent of the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, and Park Yoon-kyung, Chair of the Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as the next participants, encouraging further awareness and concrete action on population issues.

□ President Lee emphasized, “DGIST must play a role in addressing the complex challenges facing society through science and technology.” He added, “Population issues are not simply about changes in statistical data; they are deeply connected to our quality of life and the sustainability of our future.” He continued, “As an educational institution, we are committed to fostering an environment in which future generations can thrive, and we will work closely with our local community to respond to the issues of declining birth rates and an aging society.”

□ Going forward, DGIST plans to strengthen its role as an innovative educational and research institution by providing science- and technology-based solutions to a wide range of social challenges, including demographic shifts, environmental concerns, and regional disparities, and contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.
