□ The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science & Technology (DGIST; President Kunwoo Lee) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Statistics Korea (Commissioner Hyungil Lee) on April 21 (Monday) at the International Conference Room of the Statistics Center at Statistics Korea in Daejeon, to foster the development of artificial intelligence (AI) experts.
□ Through this MOU, DGIST and Statistics Korea will fully devote themselves to a wide range of collaboration projects, including developing and operating courses to train experts in AI and statistics; strengthening statisticians’ skills to use AI and big data; and conducting joint research and seminars to promote the use of AI and data.
□ More specifically, the Supercomputing AI Education and Research Center at DGIST and the Statistics Human Resources Development Institute at Statistics Korea will work closely together to jointly develop advanced statistical analysis courses using AI and big data and establish an advanced data analysis system to support the development of national statistics. This MOU is expected to contribute to improving the quality of AI training at the national level, in line with Statistics Korea’s policies aimed at strengthening AI-related skills among statisticians and data experts.
□ “This MOU will serve as an opportunity to expand technical training collaboration by developing AI courses tailored for public servants and strengthening national statistical analysis skills in the new era where advanced AI technologies are becoming increasingly common,” said President Kunwoo Lee of DGIST. He further added, “DGIST will establish a solid foundation for training talented individuals in the public sector who are equipped with scientific and statistical skills.”
□ “Through this collaboration with DGIST, we will be able to strengthen the AI-based statistical production system at Statistics Korea and provide advanced support for data-driven operations in government affairs,” said Commissioner Hyungil Lee of Statistics Korea. “This MOU is also expected to contribute to the development of AI experts across the public sector,” he added.
□ Meanwhile, DGIST and Statistics Korea view this MOU as an opportunity to jointly support the planning and implementation of government policies aimed at strengthening AI skills among public servants while continuing to expand their collaborative relationship from a long-term perspective.
