□ The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST; President Kunwoo Lee) announced that the 2025 Korean Chemistry Olympiad (KChO) Summer School, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT, organized by the Korea Foundation for Science and Creativity, and sponsored by the Korea Lottery Commission, was successfully conducted by the Department of Physics and Chemistry, DGIST, and concluded on August 9 (Sat).
□ This summer school is part of a program to develop and select students to represent Korea at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO). Ninety high school students in the first and second grades from across the country participated in the summer school for two weeks from July 28 to August 9, to compete with an academic zeal.
□ High school students in the first grade took chemistry theory classes online from July 28 to August 8. However, those in the second year took the classes online from July 28 to August 1 and stayed on the DGIST campus from August 3 to 8 for advanced learning with theoretical education and experiments across various fields, such as inorganic, physical, analytical, and organic chemistry.
□ Interim and final evaluations were conducted during this summer school. Outstanding students will be considered eligible to participate in the 2026 Korean Chemistry Olympiad Winter School. The winter school will ultimately select students to represent Korea and participate in the international competition.
□ The completion ceremony, hosted on August 9, was attended by President Pilho Lee and Vice President Hanbin Oh of the Korean Chemical Society, Chairman Hyeon Jeong of the Korean Chemistry Olympiad Committee, and Vice President Yongsoon Eun of Academic Affairs at DGIST, who encouraged the participating students and awarded them certificates of completion.
□ “I hope you will challenge yourself to compete on a bigger stage like the International Chemistry Olympiad and fully realize your potential. You’ve got this,” Vice President Yongsoon Eun of Academic Affairs at DGIST said during his speech to encourage the participating students. “I hope the completion of this summer school will serve as a solid stepping stone for you to achieve your dream, and DGIST will always be there for you to support your future.”
