Prof. Maggie Lau Ka-wai

Prof. Maggie Lau has an extensive research and teaching experience in development and policy studies, poverty and social exclusion, children and youth well-being.

Maggie’s recent research has included work on poverty and social exclusion, child poverty and child well-being. She is currently involved in the Children’s Worlds, International Survey of Children’s Well-being (http://www.isciweb.org/?CategoryID=247), which is a worldwide research survey on children’s views on their lives and well-being. She is also leading the Public Policy Research funded project on the Relationship between Poverty and Neurocognitive Skills. She led the Poverty and Social Exclusion in Hong Kong project (http://www.poverty.hk/) (with David Gordon at the University of Bristol, UK), funded by the HKRGC and UK ESRC and was a co-investigator of the Strategic Public Policy Research (SPPR) funded project on Trends and Implications of Poverty and Social Disadvantages in Hong Kong. Her publications have appeared in Social Indicators Research, Child Indicators Research, Children and Youth Services Review, Health Policy, International Journal of Behavioral Medicine, Drug and Alcohol Review, and Nicotine and Tobacco Research. She was the guest editor of the special issue ‘Poverty in a Rich Society: The Case of Hong Kong’ for the China Review (Fall 2015).
