The Ocean Celebration event has been organized by the Borneo Marine Research Institute of Universiti Malaysia Sabah since 2012. This year is the second year where the event was celebrated virtually due to the pandemic Covid-19.
Virtual Ocean Celebration 2021 was held in conjuction with the annual World Oceans Day (8 June), Coral Triangle Day (9 June) and World Sea Turtle Day (16 June).
