Dr. Anita Borg revolutionized the way we think about technology and worked to dismantle the barriers that keep women and minorities from entering the computing and technology fields. In 2004, the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship was established in the USA and was extended to Asia, Europe, and Africa. The scholarship recognizes women scholars in computer science.

The scholarship is awarded based on the strength of candidates: academic performance, leadership experience, and demonstrated passion for computer science. Under the research project with Hyundai Motor Company, Songyi Chae worked on the analysis of the biomedical signal processing data collected for safe drive

Ms. Chae has outstanding social service experiences as well as passion for her studies and research. She visited Mongolia in 2008 and Africa in 2009 for educational service. Currently she is also serving in the Center for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology as a mentor of female high school students who want to be scientists.

“I would like to be a recognized scholar in the field of Human Computer Interaction,” said Ms. Chae, showing her ambitions. “I also want to be an exemplary mentor to women scientists through constant social services”.
