The National Art Gallery displays paintings of FRIM

Three artists have collaborated with the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and the National Art Gallery to put up an exhibition, themed “The Enchanting World of FRIM on Canvas in the Eyes of Rizlan, Ghani & Rafie” starting 2 June 2009.

Inspired by FRIM’s effort to promote environmental awareness through its photography competition themed “The Enchanting World of FRIM, Through the Lens” earlier this year, the artists sought to work with FRIM to do their bit to promote environmental awareness and nature appreciation through art.

Together, Rizlan Kamaruddin, Rafie Abdul Rahman and Abdul Ghani Ahmad have produced about 35 paintings depicting the green lushness of FRIM and some other forests in Malaysia, of which 30 are being displayed at the National Art Gallery for two weeks.

The Deputy Secretary General of the Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) Ministry, Puan Aziyah Mohamed, officiated the opening of the exhibition at the National Art Gallery on 2 June.

Also present were the FRIM Director General (DG) Dato’ Dr Abd. Latif Mohmod and National Art Gallery Chairman Board of Trustees Chairman Dato’ Seri Abdul Azim Bin Mohd Zabidi.

Some of the art pieces will be brought to the FRIM main campus in Kepong for exhibition during the World Environment Day celebration on 7 June. Part of the proceeds from sale of these paintings will be donated by Rizlan Gallery to FRIM’s environmental education funds.
