APEC symposium on Environmental Finance for Greenhouse Gas Reduction

Tokyo, Japan - Vibrant discussions are expected to be made mainly, but not limited to on the issues of environmental financing and emission trading and impediments preventing private sectors from actively being involved in this area.

Considering the fact that 21 APEC member economies collectively account for 60 percent of global energy demand, the issue of climate change was addressed in the 2007 Joint Statement in Coolum, Australia. APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) values this addressing and believes in the importance of discussing this issue in a profounder manner in order for us to be fully active as the business advisory board for APEC. This symposium is one of the big first steps for ABAC, under the collaboration with Asian Development Bank, Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), to make.

Vibrant discussions are expected to be made mainly, but not limited to on the issues of environmental financing such as CDM ,JI and emission trading and impediments preventing private sectors from actively being involved in this area.

Universally known distinguished presenters will be invited by ABAC in conjunction with other organizers. The details will be announced shortly.

This symposium is not open to public. An audience of about one hundred will receive invitation packages in the coming weeks.

Please refer to the speech made by Premier Fukuda of Japan at Davos Conversation on January 28, 2008.
This convinces us how much the Government of Japan recognizes the importance of climate change subjects.
