□ DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) recorded a competition rate of 27.85:1 for its 2026 undergraduate early admissions, with DGIST ranking first among science and engineering specialized universities for the third year in a row. With 222 openings and 6,182 applicants, DGIST recorded a far higher competition rate than the previous year’s 23.3:1. The number of applicants also rose 23.4% year-on-year, continuing a steady upward trend.
□ By admission type, the Equal Opportunity Track recorded the highest rate at 45.9:1, while the General Track (School of Basic Science and Engineering) also attracted many applicants at 33.8:1. The Science Talent Track registered 23.7:1, and the School Principal’s Recommendation Track (School of Basic Science and Engineering) reached 21.23:1. The newly established School Principal’s Recommendation Track (Department of Semiconductor Engineering) marked a stable debut with 6.08:1.
□ By region, the Seoul metropolitan area accounted for the largest share at 35.5%, followed by Daegu·Gyeongbuk (17.4%), Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (16.6%), and the central region (18.2%). Honam·Jeju accounted for 9.4%; Gangwon accounted for 2.0%; and overseas applicants (numbering 56) accounted for 0.9%. These figures show DGIST’s nationwide appeal. In particular, the proportion of applicants from general high schools rose to 73.2% compared to last year, indicating that DGIST is becoming a mainstream choice not limited to certain types of schools.
□ DGIST attributes these achievements to proactive institutional improvements and promotional strategies. This year, the university adjusted its intake numbers, newly established the Semiconductor Engineering major within the School Principal’s Recommendation Track, relaxed requirements for teacher recommendation letters, and revised the evaluation method for the Science Talent Track to reduce applicant burden. Together with strengthened outreach activities, these measures successfully attracted applications from excellent students.
□ Sohee Kim, Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs at DGIST, said, “Despite the difficult environment of strong preference for medical schools, a shrinking school-age population, and concentration in the capital area, students nationwide chose DGIST, proving the competitiveness of our education and research.” She added, “It is very meaningful that we receive support nationwide despite being located in a non-metropolitan region. We will continue to cultivate students’ potential through creative talent discovery and convergence-based education.”
