DGIST Revives Local Agricultural Products and Supports Student Welfare with ‘1,000 Won Breakfast-Local Love Table’

- With donations from NH Investment & Securities, providing a unique local menu. - ‘Farmer’s Day’ event, also scheduled for November 11

□ DGIST (President Lee Kun-woo) announced on the 11th that it is running a specialized breakfast program, 「1,000 Won Breakfast: Local Love Table」, using local agricultural and livestock products to enhance student welfare and promote coexistence with the local community.

□ DGIST was selected for the first time this year for the ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ project, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and operated by the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery. ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ is a meal support program for young people where central and local governments, along with universities, share the cost so that college students can have breakfast for just 1,000 won.

□ DGIST participates in this program with additional support from the Daegu Metropolitan Government. NH Investment & Securities also contributed KRW 15 million as an ESG social contribution donation to support unique menus using local produce.

□ DGIST has been running its specialized brand, «Local Love Table», once a month since April. Previously, the menu was limited due to cost (KRW 5,500 per meal), but with donations from NH Investment & Securities, it now offers a more diverse and healthier breakfast using local agricultural products.

□ In particular, the ‘Local Love Table with Freshly Harvested Rice of 2025,’ launched on the 6th, featured agricultural and livestock products from Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do, including grilled chicken legs and curry soup from Yeongcheon, freshly harvested rice with mixed grains from Dalseong-gun, onion soup from Seongju, winter cabbage bacon Caesar salad, and sweet persimmon kimchi from Hwawon, along with homegrown rice blueberry yogurt, capturing the flavors of autumn. About 200 students attended the event and expressed high satisfaction.

□ Choi Ji-yeon, Department Manager of Garam Food Service Co. Ltd., who was responsible for preparing the menus, said, “Sourcing ingredients for group meals locally consistently is quite a difficult task, but we did our best because we agree with DGIST's intent for 'Local Love Table.' I hope students experience the freshness and warmth of local produce in the meal."

□ For Farmers' Day on Tuesday, November 11, DGIST is hosting the "Homegrown Brown Rice Cake Stick and Punch Sharing" event with students and faculty. Sponsored by NH Investment & Securities, this event aims to promote coexistence by honoring the hard work of local farmers and reflecting on the value of agriculture.

□ Kim So-hee, Head of the Office of Admission and Student Affairs, stated, "The 'DGIST 1,000 Won Breakfast: Local Love Table' program is not just about providing breakfast, but a symbolic initiative where central and local governments and the private sector support the daily lives of young people together. I hope this will create a virtuous cycle where the warmth put into a meal for students is also passed on to local farms."

□ President Lee Kun-woo emphasized, "As a science and technology-based university, DGIST values social responsibility and coexistence with the local community. Engaging in daily activities like the 'Local Love Table' not only benefits the well-being of students but also sets an example for a university that grows together with the local community."

□ DGIST has provided around 28,000 meals through the '1,000 Won Breakfast' program from February to November this year and plans to hold the 「'Local Love Table」 program two more times before the semester ends. DGIST also aims to develop a series of seasonal themed “Local Love Tables” in collaboration with local agricultural cooperatives and farmers, establishing them as a leading example of regional coexistence.
