“Globally recognized AI and holography scholar“: DGIST Professor Inkyu Moon receives prestigious recognition from the University of Connecticut

- Named a Distinguished Engineer by the University of Connecticut School of Engineering - Recognized for research achievements in digital holography, intelligent imaging, and AI-based bioimaging - Expected to strengthen DGIST–UConn international collaboration and expand international collaborative research

□ Prof. Inkyu Moon of the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering at DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) has been selected as a member of the Academy of Distinguished Engineers Class of 2026 by the University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Engineering.

 

□ The UConn Academy of Distinguished Engineers is a flagship honorary program that recognizes a select group of UConn School of Engineering alumni and affiliates who have achieved outstanding accomplishments and made sustained contributions to the field of engineering. Individuals whose contributions to the advancement of engineering and to society have been recognized across diverse fields, including research, education, industry, policy, and service, are inducted as members of the Academy.

 

□ Prof. Inkyu Moon has produced world-class research achievements in the fields of digital holography, intelligent image processing, optical security, biomedical imaging, and AI-based image analysis. In particular, he has led the development of next-generation image-analysis technologies integrating digital holography and AI, privacy-preserving vision AI technologies, and imaging technologies for medical and bio-related applications, contributing to the advancement of related fields.

 

□ After earning his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UConn, Prof. Moon joined DGIST as a faculty member. In addition to publishing more than 100 SCI(E)-indexed papers, he has served as Director of the DGIST–Swiss CHUV (Lausanne University Hospital, Switzerland)-EPFL (Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Switzerland) Global Research Laboratory, Director of the BK21 Phase 4 Program, Director of the Academic Information Division at DGIST, and Dean of Student Affairs. He currently serves as a Review Board member of the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF).

 

□ This selection recognizes Prof. Moon’s international research achievements and academic leadership. For example, he is highly regarded for his research excellence and influence in the fields of intelligent imaging and digital holography. Moreover, this honor is expected to further strengthen the foundation for academic exchange between DGIST and UConn and contribute to the expansion of global research networks and international collaborative research in the future.
