□ DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee), in collaboration with INNOPOLIS Daegu of the Korea Innovation Foundation (Director Eunil Park), will hold the 15th Annual Business Model (BM) Development Seminar from Wednesday, October 14, to Tuesday, October 20, at the International Conference Room of Research Building 1 (R1) on the DGIST campus.
□ Organized by INNOPOLIS Daegu, hosted by the Open Innovation Academy, and sponsored by DGIST, the seminar aims to identify and develop creative, practice-oriented business models based on open innovation. This marks the second consecutive year that the two organizations have jointly held the event, creating synergies in technology commercialization and contributing to the revitalization of the regional startup ecosystem.
□ The program is intended for prospective startup founders and entrepreneurs, as well as graduate students and researchers interested in business model research. The curriculum focuses on specific and systematic methodologies, including (1) the 4W-1H Business Model Compass, (2) the CSEF Business Modeler, and (3) the ABCD BM Innovation Rectangle. It also offers a broad range of theoretical and practical coursework, including analyses of approximately 40 innovation cases from Korea and abroad and hands-on training in patent filing.
□ The lead instructor, JinHyo Joseph Yun, Principal Researcher in DGIST’s ABB Research Division and Head Professor of the Open Innovation Academy, is a leading expert in the field, holding approximately 50 related patents and having completed around 10 technology transfer projects. He will further enrich the seminar by incorporating the latest research findings from his forthcoming book, Open Business Model Dynamics, which is currently being prepared for publication by a global publisher, into the seminar’s practical exercises.
□ Experts from various fields will also serve as instructors, sharing their expertise across a wide range of areas. They include Daeil Nam, Professor at Korea University; Heungju Ahn, Professor at DGIST; Ja-deok Koo, CEO of REMANn; Wan-jong Joo, Representative Patent Attorney at TaeBaek Intellectual Property Law Firm; and EuiSeob Jeong, Principal Researcher at KISTI. In addition, a practical session led exclusively by DGIST Senior Research Fellow Hyobi Cho will give participants a hands-on opportunity to analyze real-world industry cases and develop new business models themselves.
□ In particular, seminar participants will have access to exclusive follow-up opportunities to advance their business models onto the global stage. They will receive priority opportunities to participate in the business model session competition at the SOI 2027 Conference (SOI & Silesian University of Technology 2027 Conference), which will be held at the Silesian University of Technology in Poland in July 2027. Participants will also have access to extensive free expert consulting to support the successful development of their models.
