Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science of Lingnan University, and Lingnan Fellow of the Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study (LUIAS) and internationally renowned chemical engineering scholar Prof Ignacio E. Grossmann attended the 22nd IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (IEEE CASE 2026) in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. The conference, themed “Smart Industry”, brought together leading scholars and industry experts from around the world in the fields of automation and robotics. During the conference session, President Prof S. Joe Qin introduces Prof Grossmann’s academic background and distinguished achievements. Prof Grossmann delivered a plenary speech today (18 August), entitled “Challenges in the Application of Mathematical Programming Approaches to Industrial Enterprise-wide Optimisation”, sharing the challenges of applying mathematical programming approaches to enterprise-wide optimisation, as well as the applications of related research in industrial production planning, supply chains and enterprise decision-making.

Lingnan University
Lingnan University’s annual student exhibition "Who Cares?" will open with a ceremony on 10 August at 5:00 pm and will be open to the public from 11 to 17 August. The exhibition offers a new-generation curatorial perspective where viewers are invited to re-examine the meaning of "care" from different viewpoints. Organised by 32 students from the Master of Arts in Curating and Art History (MACAH) programme under the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries, the exhibition is divided into six curatorial units and features over 40 multimedia works, including paintings, sculptures, installations, new media, and video art by more than 30 artists from the Hong Kong SAR, the Chinese Mainland, and beyond. Admission is free, and the public is invited to explore the deeper significance of "care" through art.

On 10 July, to mark the grand finale of its JUPAS Summer Festival series, Lingnan University hosted a special screening of The Way We Talk—the critically acclaimed local production about the deaf and hard-of-hearing community—under the theme of "Society and Us". The film preceded a dialogue between Mr Adam Wong Sau-ping, producer, screenwriter, and director, and Ms Jacqueline Liu, producer, converging with Prof Lisa Leung Yuk-ming, Associate Professor of the Department of Cultural Studies at Lingnan University, and Prof Enoch Tam Yee-lok, Research Assistant Professor of the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries, to explore the intersections of academic theory and creative narrative.

To mark the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Lingnan University today, 1 July, organised a seminar entitled “The Present and Future of Liberal Arts Education through the Lens of Lingnan History” at Yuanzhi Business School in Guangzhou. Bringing together distinguished scholars and experts, the seminar explored the close educational and cultural ties between Guangzhou and Hong Kong, as well as the value of preserving and advancing liberal arts education in the digital era.
In the evening, Canton Tower illuminated a congratulatory display celebrating Lingnan’s achievement of retaining the world’s No. 1 position in SDG 4: Quality Education in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, screening the achievements of Hong Kong’s higher education sector to communities across the Greater Bay Area.

The School of Graduate Studies (GS) at Lingnan University launched the Postgraduate Summer School 2026. This year's programme focuses on interdisciplinary methodological approaches, including the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative mixed method designs. Lingnan is providing scholarship for each of the 18 outstanding postgraduate students, which includes sending them to the University of Oxford for an intensive UK session to further expand their horizons.

The 2nd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Higher Education Innovation Symposium was successfully held at Shenzhen University from 13 to 14 June 2026. Under the theme "Higher Education Innovation and Greater Bay Area Development", the event was co-organised by the Guangdong Higher Education Society, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance, and the Macao Association for Higher Education Development, and hosted by Shenzhen University. University administrators, experts, and scholars from Guangdong, Hong Kong SAR, and Macau SAR gathered to explore new pathways for innovative development in higher education, implementing key national deployments regarding higher education innovation and Greater Bay Area construction under the 15th Five-Year Plan.

Lingnan University and Yuanpei College of Peking University (PKU) organised the Lingnan-Yuanpei STEM Summer Academy (LYSSA) jointly for the third consecutive year. Coordinated by the Lingnan’s Office of Student Affairs, the LYSSA 2026 opening ceremony took place virtually on 20 April 2026, and attracted more than 40 experts, instructors, and students from both universities, providing a platform for Beijing-Hong Kong SAR youth to discuss innovation and entrepreneurship, improve their future competitiveness at work, and promote cultural exchanges and cooperation. The winning team will receive a cash prize of HK$50,000, as well as an incubation fund of up to HK$500,000 from the Lingnan Foundation, to support students in transforming their innovative ideas into entrepreneurial projects, products, or services with market potential.
