□ The Convergence Gifted Academy at DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) announced that it will recruit 40 new students for the 2027 academic year for the “DGIST Science Creativity School” from October 19 to November 20, with the aim of enhancing the scientific inquiry capabilities of students in Dalseong-gun and identifying and nurturing future science and technology talent at an early stage.
□ The DGIST Science Creativity School is a science talent development program that provides high-quality mathematics and science education to local elementary and middle school students with support from Dalseong-gun. Drawing on DGIST’s outstanding educational and research infrastructure and expert faculty, the program helps students deepen their interest in mathematics and science and develop creative problem-solving skills, with application and tuition fees fully waived.
□ Eligible applicants are students currently enrolled in the sixth grade at an elementary school or the first year at a middle school in Dalseong-gun as of the application date. Sixth-grade elementary school students may apply for the “Middle School Basic Course,” while first-year middle school students may apply for the “Middle School Advanced Course.” Each course covers four fields: mathematics, physics, chemistry, and life science. Approximately five students will be selected in each field and 20 in each course, for a total of 40 students. Applicants may select only one field, and separate admissions will not be conducted this year for the Convergence Mathematics and Convergence Science courses for elementary school students.
□ The selection process consists of three stages: (1) document review, (2) creative problem-solving ability test, and (3) interview. The document review evaluates applicants’ self-directed learning abilities, passion for mathematics and science, and potential for growth based on their self-introduction essays and teacher recommendations. Applicants who pass the first stage will be announced on November 27. The creative problem-solving ability test and interviews will be held on December 12 at Consilience Hall at DGIST, and the final successful applicants are scheduled to be announced on the website on December 18. In particular, the creative problem-solving ability test will exclude content requiring prior learning and will be designed to reflect the characteristics of each field of application.
□ Selected students will be offered a variety of programs in addition to regular classes, including a summer science camp, career mentoring involving DGIST undergraduate and graduate students, and psychological counseling. Programs in which students and their families can participate together will also be offered, including “A Night of Counting Stars,” where families build their own telescopes and observe celestial objects, as well as educational programs for parents of enrolled students. Outstanding students who successfully complete the course may advance to the next-level course the following year after undergoing an evaluation.
□ “The Science Creativity School is a program designed to help students in Dalseong-gun experience high-quality mathematics and science education within their local community and discover their own potential,” said an official from the DGIST Convergence Gifted Academy. “We will actively utilize DGIST’s outstanding education and research infrastructure to systematically support students in developing into future talent in science and technology.”
□ Meanwhile, two admissions information sessions for the 2027 academic year will be held: at 7:00 p.m. on October 14 in the International Conference Room of DGIST Research Administration Building (R1), and at 11:00 a.m. on October 17 in the main auditorium of the Daegu Scale-Up Hub (DASH).
