The MSME sector in Sri Lanka amounts to 1.017 million establishments, employing approximately 2.25 million persons. This approximates to more than 90% of total establishments in the country and 45% of total employment.
The comprehensive chapter “Assessing the Effectiveness of MSME Recovery Measures During COVID-19” in IPS’ forthcoming ‘Sri Lanka: State of the Economy 2021’ report examines the policy responses directed at supporting MSMEs in Sri Lanka since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and discusses additional policy interventions required to counter the latest hardships faced by the sector.
