□ DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) officially launched the DGIST Development Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) in celebration of its 20th anniversary. After completing the registration of its establishment on October 8, the Foundation held its first regular board meeting on November 29, marking the beginning of full-scale operations.
□ The Foundation was established to strengthen DGIST’s growth engine by raising funds to support education, research, and international exchange. In particular, it is expected to contribute to nurturing talent in science and technology and promoting regional industrial development through initiatives such as student scholarship programs, support for academic activities, and disseminating and commercializing research outcomes.
□ The first chairman of the Foundation will be Lee Choong-gon, Chairman of SL Corporation, a leading company in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. The inaugural executives include ▲ Kunwoo Lee, President of DGIST ▲Lee In-Jung, Honorary Chairman of HS Hwasung ▲Seo Sang-gi, President of the Youth Astronauts Korea ▲Son Il-ho, Chairman and CEO of Kyung Chang Industrial Corporation ▲Kim Sang-tae, Chairman of PHC Co., Ltd. ▲Lee Jae-ha, CEO of Sambo Motors ▲Park Yoon-kyung, Chairman of the Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and CEO of KK Co., Ltd. ▲Yoon Jae-ho, Chairman of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Kim Hye-jun, Director of Global Engagement at DGIST, has been appointed as the executive director and will participate in the Foundation’s operations.
□ At the first board meeting held in Daegu on November 29, 2024, the 2025 business plan and budget, the establishment of the foundation’s operational regulations, and fundraising strategies were discussed. The attendees set the mid-to-long-term goals of the Foundation, developed specific action plans, and clarified its future role.
□ Lee Choong-gon, Chairman of the DGIST Development Foundation, expressed his aspirations, stating, “DGIST has grown alongside the local community as a key research and educational institution leading the advancement of science and technology in Korea. The Foundation will be pivotal in DGIST’s leap toward becoming a global research university.”
□ Kunwoo Lee, President of DGIST, stated, “Through the diversification of fundraising by the Foundation, we will secure the necessary resources to strengthen our competitiveness in education and research, and we will spare no effort to accelerate DGIST’s growth.”
