□ DGIST (President Lee Kun-woo) is accepting applications for the ‘DGIST Science Creativity School’ until November 21 to nurture science and technology talent among local elementary and middle school students. The program targets fifth and sixth graders in elementary school and first-year middle school students in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, and will select those with the potential to become future science and technology leaders.
□ ‘DGIST Science Creativity School’ is part of the Regional Science and Creativity Talent Development Project led by the DGIST Convergence Talent Academy. It was created to implement a future-oriented convergence education model by opening the infrastructure of the nation’s top-tier convergence research university to elementary and middle school education. It received a hugely positive response since opening in August 2025, and this is the second round of recruiting students. The selected students will follow a regular curriculum on the DGIST campus throughout 2026.
□ The curriculum will be operated as an experiment and exploration-oriented convergence education program designed based on DGIST’s cutting-edge research environment and the extensive expertise of the faculty. Students will learn math and science in an integrated way through a participatory and exploratory educational method where they are encouraged to define problems and find solutions through experiments, rather than just relying on theoretical lectures. All classes will be conducted by DGIST faculty and teachers who specialize in talent development.
□ The number of recruits will be around 60, with about ten in each elementary integrated math and science course, and approximately five in each middle school elementary and intensive courses for math, physics, chemistry, and life sciences. Applications will be accepted from October 20 to November 21, 2025, and final selections will be announced on December 19 after review of documents, creative problem-solving skills test, and interviews. Registration will be held from December 29 to 31. All courses are free of charge.
□ Seok Chang-won, the Director of DGIST Convergence Talent Academy, said, “DGIST Science Creativity School is a unique program that helps local students explore the essence of science firsthand in the university’s research environment.” He added, “We will focus on nurturing creative talents with convergence skills to think critically and solve problems independently.” He also mentioned, “We hope to see many students interested in science, as all courses are offered for free.”
□ Meanwhile, DGIST plans to expand cooperation with local educational institutions and governments around the Science Creativity School to build a regional ecosystem for developing science talent with community participation. The program is expected to lay a foundation for students in Dalseong-gun to experience world-class science and technology education and grow into talents with convergence capabilities to lead the future.
