□ DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) announced that the Dutch semiconductor technology innovation delegation (hereinafter referred to as the “delegation”) visited the university on Tuesday, February 10, and engaged in comprehensive discussions on strategies to promote global education and research collaboration in the fields of semiconductors and sensors.
□ This visit was organized to promote technological exchange and establish partnerships between the Netherlands and DGIST. The delegation included Peter Wijlhuizen, Head of Innovation, Technology and Science at the Netherlands Embassy, Korea; Professor Hans Hilgenkamp of the University of Twente; and Chair Professor Guoqi Zhang of TU Delft, along with other leading authorities in Dutch semiconductor research.
□ In addition, 25 key representatives from industry, academia, research institutes, and the government—who play leading roles in the Dutch semiconductor ecosystem—accompanied the delegation, with the represented industries including Prodrive Technologies, a core partner of ASML[1], and Axelera AI, an AI semiconductor company.
□ On that day, the delegation toured DGIST’s world-class semiconductor FAB facilities and closely examined its state-of-the-art processing equipment and research infrastructure. During the following meeting, DGIST researchers and members of the delegation explored concrete plans for collaboration.
□ Both sides discussed key agenda items, such as 1) joint research on next-generation semiconductor and sensor technologies and 2) exchange of educational programs to foster global talent. In particular, they agreed to concentrate their respective capabilities to ensure that this meeting develops into a “global partnership among industry, academia, and government” that generates sustainable outcomes.
□ In particular, officials from Daegu Metropolitan City also attended the event, further adding significance to the occasion. Daegu Metropolitan City emphasized that it would provide full administrative and policy support at the municipal level to ensure that the Netherlands’ advanced technologies are successfully integrated into the regional industrial ecosystem to generate synergies.
□ “The visit by the Dutch delegation, a global leader in semiconductor equipment and design, demonstrates that DGIST’s research capabilities and infrastructure are of world-class caliber,” stated DGIST President Kunwoo Lee. “We will use this opportunity to further strengthen our global semiconductor alliance with the Netherlands and take the lead in cultivating key engineering talent who will play leading roles on the global stage.”
