DGIST Wins Grand Prize at the ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ Best Practice Competition

- Won the Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister’s Prize, recognized as the ‘nation’s best practice’ for the local agricultural product-based breakfast model - Building a foundation for student welfare and local coexistence through the specialized operation of the ‘Local Love Table.’

□ DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) announced that it received the Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs Minister’s Prize (Grand Prize) at the 2025 ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ Best Practice Competition Award Ceremony held in Sejong City on December 12.

□ This competition, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion, and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery, recognized best practices for the ‘1,000 Won Breakfast,’ a meal support program for young people with participation from 201 colleges and universities nationwide. Although this was their first time participating in the program, DGIST performed well by establishing a model that involved cooperation with the Daegu Metropolitan Government and NH Investment and Securities’ ESG social contribution, in addition to support from the central government.

□ DGIST demonstrated excellent performance in the first year of the program, achieving both qualitative and quantitative results. These include providing a total of 32,004 breakfasts from February to December, maintaining a high satisfaction rate of around 95%, and establishing a membership-based breakfast platform. Notably, implementing a breakfast model for local coexistence through the regular operation of ‘Local Love Table,’ a specialized program that fully utilizes local agricultural products from the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, was seen as the key factor in DGIST being chosen for the grand prize.

□ “It was made possible for a small giant institute like DGIST to lay the foundation for a stable breakfast program thanks to the support from central and local governments along with NH Investment and Securities,” said President Kunwoo Lee. “The grand prize that we won is the result of the efforts of the institute, local community, and the private sector. We will continue to improve student welfare and promote a healthy breakfast culture by using more local agricultural products, including those from Dalseong-gun.”

□ DGIST’s breakfast program will be officially included in the 2025 ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ Best Practice Collection. It will serve as a model and reference for universities and local governments in establishing their own breakfast programs. DGIST will continue expanding programs that will help improve student welfare and support local community coexistence.
