Domestic and International Experts to Gather in Daegu in December for the 14th Annual Business Model Development Seminar

- Seminar to be held 9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. on December 11th–12th and 15th–17th, 2025, at the Daegu R&D Special Zone Headquarters - Early registration is encouraged since strong demand is expected for lectures by leading domestic and international experts

□ DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) has announced that the 14th Annual Business Model Development Seminar will be held over five days on December 11th–12th and 15th–17th in the third-floor seminar room of the Daegu R&D Special Zone Headquarters. Organized by the Daegu R&D Special Zone Promotion Foundation and sponsored by DGIST and the Dalseong County Office, the event will be hosted by the Open Innovation Academy (Professor-in-Charge Jinhyo Yoon, concurrently principal researcher at the ABB Division). Lectures will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m. daily.

□ First launched 14 years ago by Professor Yoon, the seminar has since played a leading role in advancing research and education related to business models in Korea. Over time, the seminar content has established a solid academic foundation through integration into courses at major universities such as Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University, KAIST, UNIST, and POSTECH.

□ This year, with the support of the Daegu R&D Special Zone Headquarters and the Dalseong County Office, seminar participants will receive a draft manuscript (approx. 900 pages) of Professor Yoon’s forthcoming textbook to be published by the Cambridge University Press. The textbook, which is scheduled for use at the University of Hohenheim in Germany, is being developed as a global standard reference. To further enhance focus and learning, participants will be provided with complimentary lunch.

□ The lectures will focus on the three-stage business model development methodology Professor Yoon has devised. Stage 1 entails deriving models based on the 5W1H (who, what, where, when, why, and how) principle. Stage 2 requires developing models from four perspectives, namely corporate innovation, engineering, consumer, and social innovation. Stage 3 entails exploring fundamental evolution using the ABCD (adding, boning, coupling, decoupling) innovation methodology. This process offers participants a rare opportunity to learn how to apply a methodology that has been adopted by overseas universities. The chance to learn directly from the originator of the methodology is invaluable.

□ Additionally, distinguished experts will deliver lectures on related themes. Topics include design thinking, sustainability, mathematical approaches, system dynamics, and patent strategies. Confirmed speakers include Professor Yoon Joohyun (Seoul National University), Professor Lee Sang-don (Ewha Womans University), Professor Ahn Heungju (DGIST), Professor Park Kyungbae (Sangji University), Dr. Jeong Eui-seob (KISTI), and patent attorney Joo Wan-jong (Taebaek Patent & Law Firm). Dr. Zhao Xiaofei (DGIST) will oversee the practical sessions.

□ The seminar is open to professors, researchers, aspiring entrepreneurs, corporate professionals (from large firms and SMEs), social entrepreneurs, consultants, and graduate students––that is, anyone interested in business model development. The event will occur in person and capacity is limited. To apply and/or inquire, please e-mail [email protected] or call 053-785-4414.
