Jeconiah Louis Dreisbach
Jeconiah Dreisbach is a Filipino interdisciplinary social scientist specializing in the sociolinguistics of migration, family language policy, language contact, and Philippine Studies. He joined GCAS as a Junior Research Fellow to further advance his contributions to global academia while juggling his culinary and entrepreneurial pursuits. He held teaching and research positions at De La Salle University (Manila), the Asian Institute of Management (The Philippines), and the American University of Sharjah (UAE). Jecon did his MA in Philippine Studies at De La Salle University (Manila) and his PhD in Humanities and Communication at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Barcelona). He is a member of the UOC interdisciplinary research group Language, Culture and Identity in the Global Age (IdentiCat). Beyond his journal articles and book chapters in Philippine linguistics, popular culture and media studies, and cultural studies, he sits on the editorial boards of leading Southeast Asian research journals Malaysian Journal of Media Studies (University of Malaya) and the LLT Journal (Universitas Sanata Dharma, Indonesia). Jecon also co-edited the book Environment, Media, and Popular Culture in Southeast Asia (Springer, 2022).
His scientific involvement also includes being elected a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society, being a Regular Member of the National Research Council of the Philippines, an affiliate of the Australian National University (ANU) Philippines Institute, and a member of the International Association for Food Protection, the Philippine International Studies Organization, and the Philippine Migration Research Network, among others.
