Lingnan University distinguished scholar Prof Song Yongduan elected as Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering

Prof Song Yongduan, Dean of the School of Data Science and Chair Professor of the Division of Industrial Data Science at Lingnan University, has been elected as a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). The result was announced today (21 November), naming him one of the 24 newly elected foreign academicians for 2025. The honour recognises Prof Song’s outstanding contributions to control science and engineering at the international level.

Prof Song Yongduan, Dean of the School of Data Science and Chair Professor of the Division of Industrial Data Science at Lingnan University, has been elected as a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University, congratulated Prof Song and said,“Prof Song’s election as a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering is a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding scholarly achievements. It also highlights Lingnan University’s steadily growing capabilities in frontier research and academic excellence. In recent years, our scholars have consistently received recognition from leading international academic institutions, reflecting the University’s increasing influence in global research and its capacity to undertake major scientific and technological initiatives for the Hong Kong SAR. The University will continue to bring together world-class scholars from around the globe, advance the translation of innovative research into practical applications, and make greater contributions to the scientific and technological development of Hong Kong and the nation.”

 

Prof Song, the newly appointed Dean of the School of Data Science and Chair Professor of the Division of Industrial Data Science at Lingnan University, served as Founding Director of the Center for Cooperative Systems at the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) in the US, from 2005 to 2008. From 2012 to 2022, Prof Song served as the Dean of the School of Automation at Chongqing University. Prof Song has published 12 books and over 400 scientific papers, holds approximately 100 patents, and currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems.

 

Since 2021, Prof Song has been recognised as one of Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists and has been listed as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate. In his role as Dean of the School of Data Science, Prof Song will provide both academic and administrative leadership in teaching, research, and curriculum development, while promoting international collaborations and academic exchanges.

 

In this year’s election results announced by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the CAE, including 73 Academicians of CAS and 71 Academicians of CAE were elected. Both academies also elected new foreign members, with 27 new Foreign Members of CAS and 24 new Foreign Members of CAE for 2025.
