Lingnan University welcomes the re-appointment of Mr Andrew Yao Cho-fai as Council Chairman by the HKSAR Government

Lingnan University is pleased to announce that Mr John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR and Chancellor of Lingnan University, has re-appointed Mr Andrew Yao Cho-fai as Chairman of the Council and an ex-officio member of the Court for a further term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026.

Lingnan University welcomes the re-appointment of Mr Andrew Yao Cho-fai as Council Chairman by the HKSAR Government.

Mr Andrew Yao Cho-fai expressed his great appreciation at his re-appointment and thanked the HKSAR Government and all Lingnan stakeholders for their confidence in him. He pledged to work tirelessly to fulfil this weighty responsibility, and said “In recent years, the University has set itself the goal of becoming a leading research-oriented liberal arts university comprehensive in arts and sciences in the digital era. I look forward to working closely with all stakeholders under the leadership of the Council and President S. Joe Qin and, in accordance with the Strategic Plan 2022-28, to continuing to advance innovative models of liberal arts education, improve campus infrastructure and plan for its expansion, and strengthen cooperation with pre-eminent institutions. This will make the most of Hong Kong’s unique advantages, especially our strong support from the Motherland and close relationship to the whole world.”

Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University, said “We are delighted that Mr Andrew Yao has been re-appointed as Chairman of the Council, which reflects full recognition of his exceptional leadership and forward-thinking vision for the University. In recent years, Lingnan has actively pursued the strategic direction of Liberal Arts + Technology through talent recruitment worldwide, increased collaboration with top international institutions, and a research network centred on data science and artificial intelligence, as well as a high-value-added approach to in-depth research in smart cities, low-carbon technologies, and advanced materials. The University is now well-equipped to undertake major interdisciplinary research projects in areas such as reindustrialisation and carbon neutrality. We look forward to continuing to advance Lingnan University to new heights in research and innovation under Chairman Yao’s leadership.”

 

The following are new appointments and re-appointments to the Council and Court of the University:

 

New appointment to the Council

  • Ms Samantha Ho Shuk-yee, as a member of the Council and an ex-officio member of the Court for a term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026.

 

New appointments to the Court

  • Mr Douglas Lee Kin-tak as a member of the Court for a term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026.
  • Mr Allister Ng Kwai-hang as a member of the Court for a term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026.
  • Mrs Peggy Zee Shun-tsin as a member of the Court for a term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026.

 

Re-appointments to the Court

  • Mr Chan Ka-yun as a member of the Court for a further term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026.
  • Dr Li Shing-sun as a member of the Court for a further term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026.
  • Mr Toby Lo Chun-yu as a member of the Court for a further term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026.
  • Dr Simon Wu Chi-wai as a member of the Court for a further term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026.

 

Lingnan University wishes to extend a warm welcome to the new members of the Council and the Court. The University has also expressed its grateful thanks to Ms Christina Gaw, outgoing member of the Council and the Court, Dr Hilton Chiu Hiu-chun, outgoing member of the Court, and Mr Barry Law Lam-wai and Mr Anthony Ng Kwai-wah, outgoing members of the Court, who will both continue to serve as Council members, for their invaluable contributions to the Council and the Court and the development of the University over the past few years.
