Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre

While biotechnology has been earmarked as the next engine of growth for the country, there is a general lack of rational science-based information about the applications of biotechnology in the local context.

The Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC) hopes to fill this gap. Established in June 2000, MABIC is the local node of a global network. With sister Biotechnology Information Centres (BICs) based in developing countries across four continents, we actively promote the education and understanding of biotechnology through a variety of awareness and capacity building programs.

MABIC is primarily funded by international and local foundations and various not-for-profit agencies and works in collaboration with local and regional groups to conduct its programs. We are currently hosted by Monash University Malaysia (MUM).

We hope this website will serve as an invaluable resource for policy-makers, industry players, the media and members of the public who want science to guide their decision-making. In an effort to address the interest of the country, we also work closely with the relevant local institutions and agencies to conduct programs aimed at promoting biotechnology understanding to the Malaysian public.

This website is part of a greater initiative, called the Global Knowledge Center, an initiative by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA). Through the Global Knowledge Center, MABIC hopes to share Malaysia's experience and expertise with the world, and to form mutually beneficial relationships with others around the world.
