Dr Sarfraz Ahmed

Sarfraz Ahmed is working as a Scientist at Harvard Medical School's Mass General Hospital. His research interests include Diseases and Therapeutics especially focus on Cancer and Therapeutics, Cancer Immunology, Photomedicine, Photo compounds and Photodevices for Cancer, Cancer and Natural agents, Nanomedicine and Nanotechnology for Cancer, Drugs resistance, Microbiology (Bacteriology & Virology) and Drugs resistance

Sarfraz Ahmed is recently working as a scientist/researcher at Harvard Medical School's Mass General Hospital, USA. Before this, he was also Assistan Professor research and teaching at University of Vererinary and Animal Sciences Lahore Pakistan for his prior affiliation. He did his PhD from School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia through TWAS-USM fellowship from 2011-2015. This fellowship was awarded by (TWAS) The World Academy of Sciences (UNESCO). After completing PhD he worked as an Assistant Professor Biochemistry in research and teaching at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore Pakistan and served over a span of 5 years. His PhD dissertation focused on exploring natural agents against breast cancer in in vivo models, which included chemopreventive and therapeutic investigations. At Harvard Medical School, he is continuing to utilize his previous training in cancer’s therapeutics, immunotherapeutics, mechanisms, genomics, and immunology using new technologies and ideas by engagement of light technologies, and state-of-the-art nanotechnologies. He is probing the effects of photomedicine, specially non-invasive light for its role to boost immune system in various in vitro and in vivo cancer models. It would ultimately lead to explore new dimensions of light for boosting immune response in cancer, specially towards in clinical applications. He also edited book as a first editor on Biochemistry of Drug Resistance, which was published by publisher Springer Nature. This is a first comprehensive book on drugs resistance globally. He also edited several book chapters on drugs resistance. He has contributed around 40+ research publications in well reputed journals including like Lancet, and Nature Scientific Reports. Since having his Master dissertation in Microbiology, he continued to work in this area as well along with his major area of research in cancer. His work’s citations count as 1380 as an early career scientist. He is also a member of several international scientific associations like Biochemical Society UK, European Federation of Biochemical Societies and American Society for Microbiology. His current advisor is an internationally known personality in the field of photomedicine and oncology and immunology. His advisor’s lab demonstrated for the first time that physical cues (spiky structures) on the surface of microbes like influenza and Covid-19 viruses published in Science. He is confident that getting exposure from world’s top ranked Harvard Medical School, he will enhance his scientific art and it will help to retrieve his productivity in science towards becoming a self-reliant or excellent researcher.
