ITEX 2017

Inventing for a Better World

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 May 2017 – Kuala Lumpur is welcoming more than 20 countries for the staging of ITEX 2017 (28th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition) at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from the 11 - 13 May 2017. Aimed at bridging the gap between the incredible pace of scientific innovation and the society and for commercialisation purposes of inventions and innovation, the theme for this year’s staging aptly reads “Inventing for a Better World”.

Organised by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), this exhibition will feature a ground breaking 1,000 inventions by researchers from the institutions of higher learning as well as young inventors, individual and corporate. Participants from more than 20 countries will be present, which include Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Korea, Saudi, Iran, Thailand, Poland, Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain and more.

According to Tan Sri Augustine S.H Ong, the President of MINDS and also the Chairman of the Organising Committee for ITEX, this year’s staging will mainly focus on commercialisation and entrepreneurship. “The policy of Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) towards the SME and Startup Communities especially, has served as our guiding principle. Hence, alongside MOSTI, ITEX 2017 will strive to be of service to these exhibitors/inventors via the startup showcase” he explains.

At ITEX 2017, startups and R&D spinoff companies are able to learn from the best businesses through various activities. Pitch4Fund for example will bring together innovators and investors to fund the next big thing. Startups Talks on the other hand is a goldmine of knowledge for budding enterprises.

Each year ITEX is thrilled to showcase hundreds of ingenious inventions by young minds through the staging of the World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE). WYIE is co-located at ITEX 2017, an overarching event for ITEX’s annual flagship shows for budding inventors that also included the Asian Young Inventors Exhibition (AYIE), and the Malaysian Young Inventors Exhibition (MYIE).

With WYIE as the overarching event, these exhibitions will take on a new life fueled by better and bigger awe-inspiring ideas. Another concurrent event not to be missed is Arts and Creativity Exhibition (ACE) organised by MINDS and returning for the third time. It seeks to actively encourage creative imagination, both in writing and in drawing and to improve English language skills. This year’s theme will be “A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever: Showcasing Malaysian Heritage.”

Also, at ITEX this year, the Graphic Design Association of Malaysia, wREGA will be co locating its arts exhibition in celebration of World Design Day 2017 with its theme Start Young. wREGA will also be conducting public talks on green design and branding. According to wREGA’s President, Ms Melissa Wong, their aim is to go public by organising Talks and Exhibitions about designing the value of the design process and to bring people from various disciplines to frame and solve local design problems.

The finale of the 2-day event will be a ballroom affair: an invitation to Malam Budaya Cipta. Apart from the glitz and glamour, the true show stoppers of the night are the numerous coveted awards up for grabs. The MOSTI Patron Award, Asian Invention Excellence Award and the ITEX 2017 Best Invention Awards are among the main awards inventors will be vying for that night.

Over the 3-day event of ITEX 2017, a line up of programmes such Venture Capital to Entrepreneur Talk, Business Matching Sessions, and an Arts and Creativity Exhibition are held alongside also.
