OSHA Week Promotes Workplace Safety

Safety at the workplace should not rely solely based on experience, as this notion may turn out fatal.

Director of Occupational Safety and Health Management Office (PPKKP), Dr. Samsul Bahari Mohd Noor was quoted saying that the OSHA Week (KKP) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) would create workplace safety and health awareness apart from placing emphasis on fire protection.

“We should take after other agencies’ good practice and benefit from the knowledge sharing in order to overcome any issues in relation to workplace safety,” he said during the closing ceremony.

He added, KKP week is not merely an annual event but all denizens should take their time and review the level of safety at their working abode hence fostering the practice of a safer and healthy working atmosphere.

KKP week, held throughout yang 28th till 31st December was hosted PPKKP as part of the effort to create awareness among the denizens of their significant roles in enhancing safety at the workplace.

In addition, Vice Chancellor of UPM, Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah said only 40 percent out of 66 KKP committees are in full force of KKP’s activity.

“As we eagerly move forward to produce better output for the University we must not take safety lightly, therefore PPKKP must enforce their roles in disseminating information on workplace safety and we, the staffs and students must give our full support,” he said.

Aptly themed, “Making Safe Working Culture A Reality: Safety Starts With Me”, the event also organized series of dialogue, fire squad marching competition, KKP quiz and Workplace Safety Award won by the Registrar Office, Nik Azarudi Nik Abdul Kadir of Tun Perak College and Institute of Bioscience respectively.
