Real Time Electrical Conductivity Mapping System

In Geneva this week, UPM researchers show new system for real time electrical conductivity mapping comprising of a measurement probe, data logger, Differential Global Positioning System and a computer mounted in a tractor cab.

This week, University Putra Malaysia's team unveiled their latest inventions and products at the 34th International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products in Geneva (April 2-6, 2008), also known as the World's Largest Market-Place for Inventions.

This research is on a new system for real time electrical conductivity mapping comprising of a measurement probe, data logger, Differential Global Positioning System and a computer mounted in a tractor cab.

The system comprised of Apparent Electrical Conductivity (ECa) probe and data logger, Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) and a robust computer installed with ReTECa MapS software mounted in a tractor cab. A computer software known as Real Time Apparent Electrical Conductivity Mapping System (ReTECa MapS) allows the communication between ECa data logger, DGPS and a robust computer. ReTECa MapS allows the ECa data to be displayed as points with respect to their location in different colors according to their classes on real time basis. The ECa and DGPS data will be stored on ReTECa MapS into two different forms namely, image graphic form and text form. This ECa data acquisition system altogether with DGPS data will later on be processed using Management Zone Delineation using Apparent Electrical Conductivity (MAZDAEC) technique.
