Waseda Selected as the Site for Three Global COE Program Research Education Centers for 2008

This program by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology seeks to promote the advancement of international competitiveness of the university.

Waseda University (President Katsuhiko Shirai) was selected as the site for three centers for the 2008 Global COE Programs in the two academic fields listed below. After being subjected to a selection process, these centers were designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

These programs are based on the 21st COE Program established in 2002 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and were aimed at improving and strengthening overall graduate education and research. Research bases, under the direction and sponsorship of the foremost of world standards, help to create a pioneering, educational environment that will nurture talented human resources who are expected to become world leaders. Assistance will target creative excellence in education and research from an international perspective. Begun in Fiscal Year 2007, this program seeks to promote the advancement of international competitiveness of the university.
