The exclusive partnership, the first of its kind by RIKEN, was signed on October 30 with the intellectual property investment and management firm, which is based in Singapore. 360ip, which works with research institutes and universities across Asia, was established by Battelle Memorial Institute, the world’s largest nonprofit independent R&D organization.
The agreement with 360ip will greatly expand RIKEN’s ‘baton zone’ for bringing its research and development results to market. Under the agreement, RIKEN and 360ip will pursue strategies for the patenting and commercialization of technologies through mutual collaboration and cooperation, industrial development, and technology transfer for the purpose of contributing to society, the two organizations said in a statement.
The agreement with 360ip will last 10 years, until October 2018, and will use 20M USD to fund development and maturation of technologies developed in RIKEN laboratories. It will also provide the necessary human resources and information to enable their commercialization.
RIKEN hopes the strengths of both organizations will contribute to the creation of innovative technologies and build new markets, as well as support the training of the next generation of science and technology professionals
