Dean of FSTM, Dr. Mohd Yazid Abdul Manap said the production has allowed opportunities for the students to incorporate not only the technicalities of food engineering but also soft skills in their experience.
In the faculty’s effort to generate first class graduates, strategies have been planned to increase the number of lecturers and expertise, to improve the facilities and infrastructures and they have successfully established the Supercritical Fluid Extraction Centre, a collaboration with Biotech Corporation.
The highlight of the day went to ‘1 Gaga – Herbal Ice Cream’, an exclusive ice cream for the health conscious especially the vegetarian and those that are lactose intolerant produced from soy milk, oat, pennywort (pegaga) and soy husks.
Other nine products are ‘EbiC-Sup Bebola Daging’ (Meatball Soup), ‘Cemp-Enak-Bebola Pastri’ (Ball Pastries), ‘Dip em-Biskut dan Sos Pencicah’ (Cookies and Dipping), ‘Veggie Bit-Konfeksi Gula’, (Confectionary) ‘SuriFresh-Makanan Ringan’ (Tit bits), ‘Yopai-Minuman Terfermentasi’ (Fermented Drink), ‘Fiji-Makanan Ringan’ (Tit-bits), ‘Pulse Delight-Makanan Ringan’(Tit-bits), dan ‘Vit-A-Mi-Mi Segera’ (Instant Noodles).
The award presentation ceremony to excellent students from the faculty was also held during the event with awards sponsored by companies of food industry. Among the awards given were Motohiro Prize by the Prof. Terushige Motohiro Foundation, Gulf Chemicals Award of Excellence by Gulf Chemical (M) Sdn. Bhd., Johnson Diversey Prize by Johnson Diversey (M) Sdn. Bhd., Tetra-Pak Award of Achievement by Tetra-Pak (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., KFC Vouchers by KFC Holdings (Malaysia) Bhd.
Top prize for the new food product went to GreeNice Confectionary Sdn. Bhd. with their famous 1 Gaga Herbal ice cream, World of Tapai Sdn. Bhd. Bagged the first runner-up spot with their product, Yopai and the third place went to GreenWay Sdn. Bhd. with Veggie Bit.
The prizes were presented by a representative from Gulf Chemicals Sdn. Bhd, Ng Bee Bee.
