IDRC's first Board of Governors meeting, 1970.
Forty years later, IDRC works with local researchers in more than 100 countries, with six regional offices in addition to its Ottawa head office. Its programs cover diverse disciplines, including agriculture, health, communication technologies, conflict, and the environment.
Over the past four decades, the Centre has built an international reputation for strong results and good management in both the development community and wider circles.
To commemorate its 40-year milestone, IDRC is celebrating in a variety of ways throughout 2010:
* Each month, the Centre publishes an online series called Lasting Impacts, highlighting the research results of the past four decades that continue to change people’s lives
* The year-long Speakers of Renown lecture series brings together some of the best minds in international development for free public lectures on a wide range of pressing issues
* This fall, the Centre will launch a book to culminate IDRC’s history project, called The International Development Research Centre: 40 Years of Ideas, Innovation and Impact.
IDRC welcomes you to join in the celebrations in whatever way you can as the Centre looks back over 40 years of research for development.
