DGIST Appoints Former Korea University President Chung Jin Taek as the New Chairman

- Engineering background with a major in mechanical engineering… Leading DGIST’s next leap

- The Board of Directors of DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) held a board meeting on March 25, 2025 (Tuesday) and appointed Chung Jin Taek (age 64 years, born 1960), former President of Korea University, as the new Chairman.

 

- Chairman Chung was appointed as a director of DGIST in February 2025 and subsequently elected as Chairman through a resolution at this board meeting. His term starts effective immediately and will continue until February 5, 2028.

 

- Chairman Chung Jin Taek has a strong academic background in engineering and extensive experience in educational administration. After completing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from Korea University, he earned his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota in the United States. He then served as a professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering in Korea University, subsequently becoming the Dean of the Graduate School of Management of Technology, and eventually the President of Korea University. He has also served as Vice President of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea and President of the Korean Association of Private University Presidents, demonstrating his excellent leadership skills across the education sector.

 

- At present, Chairman Chung is a professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering in Korea University College of Engineering and also holds the position of an external director and audit committee member at HDC Corporation. In 2021, the University of Minnesota acknowledged his global influence by presenting him the “International Leadership Award.”

 

- Chairman Chung firmly resolved, “Based on my experience, I will dedicate myself to the development of DGIST.”
