□ From July 14 to 18, DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) will offer a free “Fragrance Industry Professional Training Course” at the Daegu Scale-up Hub (DASH) in Dongdaegu Venture Valley, Daegu. Trainee recruitment will be open until July 10, and applications can be submitted through the DGIST Olfactory Convergence Research Center website (https://olfaction.dgist.ac.kr/).
□ This training course is part of the “University Research Center Support Program” funded by the Ministry of Education and city of Daegu. It is designed to train professionals working in the fragrance industry. DGIST offers this course with the goal of innovating the local industry and promoting youth entrepreneurship by applying olfactory-cognitive convergence technology to the traditional industry.
□ This year, the training course has been reorganized to be more practice-oriented, focusing on cultivating professional competencies that can be immediately applied in the workplace. Trainees will receive olfactory training and learn analytical techniques using the same fragrances used in the training course offered in France. Topics include daily olfactory training, fragrance composition fundamentals, intersensory interaction, quantitative descriptive analyses (QDA), napping, degree of difference (DoD) analyses, cross-modal associations, and the relationship between molecular structure and fragrance.
□ Professor Jérémie Topin, Head of the Flavor and Fragrance Curriculum at Côte d'Azur University in Nice, France, and Dr. Jérôme Golebiowski, a fragrance industry expert, will participate in the training. Through olfactory and sensory training and scientific analytical techniques, they will provide trainees with the expertise necessary for the fragrance industry.
□ “Through the training courses we ran up until last year, we confirmed the local community’s high interest in and potential for success in the fragrance industry,” said Dr. Moon Cheil, Director of the Convergence Research Advanced Center for Olfaction at DGIST. “This year, we have strengthened the curriculum by placing a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and application. This will prepare participants to develop sensory analyses and creative problem-solving skills, enabling them to start working in the industry immediately.” He added, “We look forward to collaborating with French experts to deliver a world-class training program and we expect those who complete the training to become the core of the fragrance industry ecosystem in South Korea and abroad.”
□ The French experts also noted the program’s educational approach. They said, “The training develops the senses and creativity required of fragrance industry professionals, going beyond the simple transfer of knowledge. We expect to gain new inspiration through exchanges with young South Korean talents.”
□ The training program is expected to contribute to technical exchanges between South Korean and French experts and the growth of Daegu as a center for the global fragrance industry.
