Lingnan University admits five elite athletes for the 2025/26 academic year. The three cyclists are (from left) Yeung Cho-yiu, Phoebe Tung, and Liang King-hung.
Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Scientific Computing, welcomed the five elite athletes warmly to the Lingnan family saying "They not only demonstrate extraordinary strength on the international stage, but also have a spirit of resilience and self-improvement. Lingnan University will fully support their holistic development in both academic and personal growth, embodying the core values of the 'Lingnan Spirit'—passion, loyalty, perseverance, openness to different ideas and cultures, and a readiness to serve society. The University will provide flexible and targeted learning arrangements to help these students continue to shine in their athletic pursuits while realising their academic potential for a bright and secure future."
The five athletes will take the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports Coaching and Event Management, an interdisciplinary programme covering sports psychology, marketing, and human resource management, which aligns with Lingnan's holistic educational philosophy, and supports athletes in both career planning and personal growth.
Cyclist Yeung Cho-yiu: A leading figure in Hong Kong women's short-distance cycling, she has competed in the National Games and the Asian Games, getting extensive international experience. Recently, she won the women's elite 250m individual time trial at the 2025 Hong Kong Track Cycling National Championships, and gold in the women's elite time trial at the Track Asia Cup 2024, as well as gold in the women's elite time trial, and silver in both the Women's Elite Keirin and Women's Elite Sprint at the Track Asia Cup 2022.
Cyclist Phoebe Tung: She has shown exceptional ability in track cycling, finishing third in the women's elite 250m individual time trial and second in the Keirin at the 2025 Hong Kong Track Cycling National Championships. On the international stage, she won a silver medal in the Women's Elite Keirin at the Track Asia Cup 2024, as well as a silver medal in the women's 750m individual time trial at the 2022 National Track Cycling Championships.
Cyclist Liang King-hung: Active in local and Asian cycling events, he achieved third place in the men's elite elimination race at the Track Asia Cup 2023, and also in the men's elite category at the 2025 Hong Kong National Road Championships.
Rower Head Jaden Li: An accomplished rower, he won a silver medal in the U23 men’s single sculls at the 2023 Asian Rowing U19 and U23 Championships, and also in the U19 men's double sculls at the Asian Rowing Championships 2022 and Asian Rowing Junior Championships 2022. He finished eighth of 70 in the men's singles at the 44th Hong Kong Rowing Championships in 2022.
Taekwondo athlete Lam Siu-wai: She has achieved remarkable results in taekwondo, coming third at the G1 Belgian Open Taekwondo 2025. She came fifth in the mixed gender team event at the 19th Asian Games in 2023, and won a silver medal in the women's fin weight category at the Indonesia Open Taekwondo Championships 2015.
Lingnan University's Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme offers comprehensive scholarships and support in three key areas: academic development, campus life, and medical coverage. Outstanding athletes can receive funding of up to HK$400,000 over the course of their studies, covering tuition fees, accommodation, and a living allowance. Student athletes will also benefit from additional medical and insurance coverage, as well as professional consultation services in physiotherapy, sports psychology, and nutrition to ensure their physical and mental well-being.
To accommodate their training and competition schedules, Lingnan’s Office of Student Affairs (OSA) will assign dedicated personnel to offer one-stop personalised support for practical needs, including priority course registration, flexible course arrangements, flexible study periods, career planning advice, and prioritised accommodation and internship opportunities in assisting students’ development beyond sport.
