□ DGIST (President Lee Kun-woo) announced that the DGIST AI/SW SCHOOL (“AI/SW School”), a local hub platform for AI and software talent education to lead the era of the fourth industrial revolution, will officially open in March 2026. As artificial intelligence (AI) and software (SW) become central to national competitiveness, DGIST aims to identify and develop future convergence talent by sharing its research and educational resources with the local community.
□ The AI/SW School aims to develop talent with creative problem-solving skills based on DGIST’s advanced convergence technologies and practice-focused educational methods. The training will be held near Dongdaegu Station to improve accessibility for students, and the program will be operated as a ‘creative convergence exploration project.’ It targets students from sixth to tenth grades in the Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do regions while featuring a non-graded system that groups students by skill level rather than school year.
□ The key curriculum is designed as a five-step full-cycle growth track: ▲Basic, ▲Intensive, ▲Advanced, ▲Mentorship, and ▲Master. The Basic Course, with 10 students and opening in March 2026, will cover AI and software fundamentals, such as Python. The Intensive Course, also for 10 students, will explore various fields of DGIST’s AI research. The Advanced Course will provide an in-depth look at applied AI, including medical and physical computing. The Mentorship Course, focused on professor-student-led research, and the Master Course, centered on professor-graduate student collaboration, will be offered in 2027. Additionally, DGIST will enhance students’ exploration and research skills through special lectures and summer camp programs.
□ DGIST will also run a joint high school program to help local students with college admissions and career planning. Cognitive science, robotics, and AI/SW courses will be offered in the first semester of 2026, with new biology and MINI MBA courses in the second semester. Internships and exchange programs with international universities will be available to give students opportunities to experience global research.
□ DGIST President Lee Kun-woo said, “DGIST will share advanced AI/SW research capabilities with the local community to give students in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do an early experience of world-class research and start-up culture,” and added, “We will contribute substantially to strengthening national competitiveness and promoting regional balanced development through AI/SW School.”
□ Seok Chang-won, the Director of the Convergence Talent Academy, said, “AI/SW School’s strength comes from the full-cycle, growth-focused education model that covers everything from basics to mastery,” and added, “We will combine courses tailored to each level and project-based learning in specific fields to develop highly talented AI/SW professionals with practical skills who can identify and solve problems independently.”
□ Meanwhile, DGIST plans to develop the AI/SW School into a key platform for fostering regional innovative talent and creating a global convergence talent ecosystem through a virtuous cycle of research, education, and startups.
