□ DGIST (President Lee Kun-woo) announced the ‘14th Annual Business Model Development Seminar,’ which will take place over five days in Daegu on December 11, 12, 15, 16, and 17. The seminar will be led by Professor Yoon Jin-hyo, the head of the Open Innovation Academy and lead researcher of the Division of AI, Big Data, and Blockchain.
□ This seminar will be fully supported by the Innopolis Daegu and Dalseong-gun Office. All participants will receive a draft textbook authored by Professor Yoon, which will be published by Cambridge University Press. The textbook is used in lectures at the University of Hohenheim in Germany and is scheduled to be published as a widely recognized business model textbook. Learning materials and toolkits will be provided free of charge, along with a free lunch, so participants can focus on learning and discussions.
□ Professor Yoon Jin-hyo, the lead lecturer in this seminar, will focus on the unique three-step business model development methodology that he created. Step 1 involves deriving a model by grouping 5W1H into five forms. Step 2 applies four approaches, including corporate innovation, engineer’s perspective, consumer’s perspective, social innovation, and social entrepreneur’s perspective. Step 3 deals with the ‘ABCD Business Model Innovation Methodology,’ which consists of A (Adding), B (Boning), C (Coupling), and D (Decoupling). Professor Yoon is currently a sabbatical fellowship visiting professor at the University of Hohenheim in Germany and is returning to Korea temporarily for the seminar.
□ Korea’s top scholars will also participate in this seminar as lecturers: Professor Yoon Joo-hyeon of Seoul National University will speak on design thinking-based business models; Professor Lee Sang-don of Ewha Womans University on sustainable environment and BM; Professor Ahn Heung-joo of DGIST on mathematical understanding; Professor Park Gyeong-bae of Sangji University on system dynamics; and Dr. Jeong Eui-seop of KISTI on business models from the perspective of patents. Patent Attorney Joo Wan-jong of TaeBaek Intellectual Property Law Firm will lecture on BM Patent Logic, and Dr. Cho Hyo-bi of DGIST Division of AI, Big Data, and Blockchain will lead the practice session.
□ This seminar, launched 14 years ago by Professor Yoon Jin-hyo, has greatly contributed to promoting research and education on domestic business models. Currently, relevant lectures are growing at major universities, including Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University, KAIST, UNIST, and POSTECH.
□ Professor Yoon Jin-hyo explained, “’Creative Destruction’ as suggested in the research of Professors Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt is the driving force for the development of capitalism. This seminar aims to embody their theory through business model innovation in reality.”
□ This seminar is open to anyone interested in business model development, including professors, pre-startup operators, BM development department staff at large corporations, SME representatives and executives, experts from Innopolis and the Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, and under- and post-graduate students. The seminar will be held in person. Registration is expected to close early as it will be closing in one month. For registration and information, contact [email protected] or 053-785-4414.
